No matter how much you love your work, you feel like you need a break at some point to wash off all the stress, and weekends aren’t enough anymore. A long vacation can help us relax, break free from the monotonous life and enjoy things, but one can’t be in the vacation mode forever and eventually have to return to real life. And that’s where the trouble begins. Many of us find it hard to come back to work and dread going to the office. It doesn’t have to be this way, though. Here are some easy tips that help make the transition easier.
Catch a breath
Don’t just return from a long holiday and head straight to the office. It is a good idea to have a buffer day or maybe even a weekend where you can spend time at home, relax, unpack and do your chores around the house. This will help you settle down and mentally prepare yourself for work.
Reminisce
Vacations are fun, so think about it and smile. Collect pictures and share them on social media. You can even pick up souvenirs for your colleagues and friends at work. Talking about good times and sharing stuff with people at work will help you lighten your mood.
Plan a day sans meetings
Avoid scheduling meetings right on the day you re-join work after a holiday. Take your time, catch up with colleagues, check emails, messages, etc., to know what’s happening. Evaluate your workflow and prioritize tasks. It will help you regain that sense of control. Heading straight for meetings or calls will make you feel lost with no clue about what’s happening.
Take it easy
It is okay to take it easy. Go through your tasks and tackle them one by one. Do not multitask or overwork your brain. It is even okay to log off or unplug a little early on the first day so you can be back in full swing from the next day.
Start planning your next holiday
Planning your next holiday or even a weekend getaway can be a great idea to beat the post-vacation blues. Work doesn’t seem endless or boring when you have something to look forward to.
Returning to work can be re-energizing and help renew your focus on your career. Vacations boost productivity and motivation levels even though the first few days might require some adjustment. Remember, being positive is the only way to go!
