No matter if your week was stressful or smooth sailing, there are plenty of ways to find motivation on a Friday! Read on for some tips on rediscovering that Friday motivation feeling.
1. Look to next week
One great way to find Friday motivation is by looking forward to next week to figure out if you’re going to have a heavy workload. When you know what the next week has in store, you’ll feel more empowered to either get in front of some work to make the next week easier or enjoy the last day of a long grind before the lighter week ahead.
A helpful tool when you’re trying to analyze the coming week is, which lays out all of your meetings, action items, and priorities all in one place. Whether you’re looking at next week, next month, or the next six weeks, you’ll be able to see everything you need to organize your Friday. You can even integrate your Google Calendar or Outlook calendars so that you won’t miss a thing.
2. Finish unfinished business
Let’s face it – you might have missed a couple of things throughout the week that fell through the cracks as other priorities emerged. Luckily, it’s easy to find motivation on a Friday if you have to make a last-minute push to resolve any outstanding issues. Just put on your headphones, turn on ‘Working for the Weekend,’ and get down to business.
First, look at your to-do list and see if you have any projects with past deadlines or imminent deadlines. Then, of those projects, find whichever task will take you the least amount of time to complete, even if it’s an intense or painstaking process, and focus your Friday energy on checking that item off your to-do list.
3. Make your morning ambitious
Planning out your Friday is critical for keeping your energy levels up, and there’s nothing better than knocking down all your hard work in the morning so that you can have an afternoon that primes you for the weekend. A study from Amerisleep finds that self-described ‘morning people’ have higher levels of productivity, especially those who get up from 4-6 AM.
Even if you’re not bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in the mornings, there are still ways to optimise your performance – by connecting with another morning person. You can use Hive to do some resourcing and see who has available time that aligns with yours. That way, you’ll be able to see who also has some Friday morning free time and schedule a huddle if you need some inspiration or direction.
4. Make your afternoon easy
Once you’ve worked hard all morning, you can use the afternoon to find your Friday motivation by pumping the breaks a little. You don’t have to be completely unproductive because you’re feeling exhausted from the week. Try getting the easy tasks out of the way, such as follow-up calls, data entry, industry research, or checking in about project updates.
5. Utilize your support system
If you’re feeling like a zombie on Friday, and it’s hard to get your head in the game, there’s no shame in relying on your team for a pick-me-up. They’re there to provide you with a solid support system to do your best every day, and whether you’re going through a draining personal event or enduring a heavy workload, you can rest assured that your team will help you through it.
If you need to drop by a teammate’s workspace and talk through a blocker, that can be a helpful way to start your Friday.
6. Start something new
Sometimes it can feel overwhelming to start something new on a Friday, but it can actually make you feel more motivated to begin chipping away at something big. Don’t wait until Monday to start outlining that new project from scratch or thinking about strategies for managing an upcoming project. Making an effort to get a head-start on organising your forthcoming workflow now could save you hours of work later.
7. Make meetings fun
You can always find motivation on a Friday by socialising with your coworkers, and there’s no better place to connect in a productive way than a meeting. You can feel like you’re getting a bit of a break from some more focus-oriented personal work, and you’ll get to bond over that Friday feeling with your team.
8. Give yourself a reward
If you’re struggling at the end of the week to keep being productive, try a reward system that motivates you. Have your second coffee if you’ve finished one project, or give yourself a nice walk midday during the summer, after you’ve crossed another thing off your list. You can do it, you’re almost to the weekend!
